More than 31,000 people attended the 2008 Field Day of the Past, making this
the largest attendance in our 17 year history.
The weather was fabulous; day time temperatures hovered in the high 70s and
the sun shone the entire weekend. Daily attendances were up from last year and overall attendance increased approximately
11 percent over the 2007 show.
Highlights for this year’s show included Robinson’s Racing Pigs,
Dennis Beach Custom Wood Carving, Boots and Britches and The Virginia Draft Horse and Mule Association events.
As always, Field Day’s permanent exhibits proved to be some of the
most popular attractions. In a survey during the show, the most often mentioned reason for visiting Field Day was its historical
exhibits and displays.
An operating cotton gin and stave mill, steam sawmill, sorghum mill, smoke
house and official Post Office are just a few of these permanent exhibits. The Educational Building with print shop, farm
exhibit and other displays is also a favorite.
Our thanks to all who attended and everyone who helped out.
